We spent our last full day of the tour visiting two amazing museums, the Orangerie and the Orsay. While the highlight of the Orangerie is said to be Monet's walter lilies, and they were fabulous, I was drawn in by the the Paul Guillaume collection. I loved seeing the works by Maurice Utrillo, whom we had learned about during our day in Montmartre, works by Picasso, Matisse and especially Renoir.
We walked from the Orangerie to the Orsay, which we visited on our own. This is another very impressive museum which warrants a return visit! A favorite moment was walking in and seeing "Whistler's Mother." I particularly loved seeing Degas' pieces and other works by Monet and Renoir. We had lunch at the museum's restaurant, before heading back to the hotel. We finished the evening with dinner together before bidding farewell to Arnaud and tour members who we would not see in the morning. |
