Following our guided tour of the Chateau, we were on our own for the rest of the day. We decided to tak the convenient tram to explore the Petit Trianon and some of the grounds. King Louis XV originally built this for himself and it was given to Marie Antoinette by her husband, King Louis XVI and she made this her home base.
Angelina's has a cafe on the premises so we grabbed a baguette and some macarons for a quick lunch before continuing our exploring. The grounds are gorgeous and immaculately kept, and there are many walking paths, with benches along the way so you can sit and enjoy the view. When we decided to leave, we hopped on the convenient shuttle bus that took us directly to the train station for our easy and pleasant ride back to Paris. |
Thanks, Rick, for the tip!We enjoyed our meal at La Varangue so much that we ate there twice! One of Rick's recommended restaurants, it was very close to our hotel and the proprietor, Philip was welcoming and entertaining! Our first visit on Monday, I tried two French specialties, Escargot and his delicious boeuf bourguignon. Yes, I liked the snails, but I can't imagine not liking something bathed in melted butter! On our second visit, we had his special of the night - diced pork with vegetables cooked in a cream sauce topped with puff pastry. And his chocolate cake, of course!

You learn something new every day! When I say, "I'm going to Versailles," I mean that I'm going to visit the palace and grounds. But Versailles is actually the town. We were fortunate to have an opportunity to see a bit of this town on our bus ride back to the train station, and once again, spoke about visiting again, just to wander around, visit shops and see what life there is like. While we waited for our train we happened upon this sign that poor Ziggy was lost! Pet owners who live in Versailles have the same worries that we do!
